Naranjilla-
Way too cool!!!
These always attract attention...
Large subtropical plant from the andean plateau where it is grown for its delicious orange fruits. National fruit of Ecuador. Small, 1-1.5" orange fruits are covered with fuzz. Beautiful emerald green pulp with tropical fruit flavor. To make a refreshing juice, simply add sugar and water. Ornamental plants with large purple veined leaves covered with a soft, downy fuzz. Height: 4-6'. Needs 8 months of growth to produce fruits. May need hand pollination to set fruit. Also called "Lulo".

Colombian strain covered with serious spines and producing larger fruits.
Beautiful container or specimen plant; protect from hottest summer sun.

Pepino -
With its beautiful tear-drop shape and purple-streaked satiny-smooth skin, the Pepino Melon is an eye-catching little fruit. Also known as Pepino Dulce, Melon Pear, Mellow Fruit or Tree Melon; though not a true melon, the Pepino is actually in the nightshade family, which includes tomatoes and eggplants. A native of South America, Pepinos are grown in many countries, including Ecuador and New Zealand. Inside this thin-skinned beauty is a golden-yellow flesh with the texture of a fine, juicy melon and the distinctive aroma of honeydew, pear and vanilla. The Pepino has a subtle, mellow flavor with less-sweet hints of melon and cucumber. (Actually, “pepino” means cucumber in Spanish.)

Tamarillo
Small subtropical tree bearing clusters of 3-4" egg shaped red fruits looking somewhat like tomatoes. Can be grown outdoors year-round in frost free areas or as a big container plant that can be placed outside in bright shade during the summer; large leaves - protect plants from the hottest sun. The sweet-tart, acidic fruits have a meaty pulp and bring to mind the flavors of tomato, orange and lime. Can be used raw but also in any imaginable way (cooked, preserved, jams, juice, etc.). A high yielder after one year of growth.
